OraBrite Gives Hope

On Saturday June 18th, the OraBrite team participated in the Relay for Life of Cortland County held at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. There were 33 teams and 331 participants and $66,807.61 was raised for the American Cancer Society at the relay.

"The American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement is the world's largest and most impactful fundraising event to end cancer. It unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to finish the fight once and for all. With the support of thousands of volunteers, the American Cancer Society is helping save more than 500 lives a day." This year in America, approximately 564,800 Americans are expected to die of cancer, OraBrite was proud to raise money to help end cancer.

 
The theme for this year's event was "There's No Place Like Hope" with a Wizard of Oz twist. Relayers were asked to transform their campsite like "Welcome to the Land of Oz". The team used their creative design and transformed our campsite into Munchkin Land where Dorothy's house landed on the wicked witch!

The Luminaria Ceremony Begins
 

Once the sky turns dusk at the Relay for Life the Luminaria Ceremony begins. The luminarias light the track to "remember loved ones lost to cancer and honor those battling the disease by dedicating luminaria bags." The luminarias are costum-made in honor or in memory of a loved one affected by cancer. The message in the ceremony of light is of hope and persistence to continue to fight for a cure for cancer.

OraBrite gave back to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Cortland County. Over the last several months the OraBrite team has participated in several fundraising opportunities; the Paint the Town Purple, Corn Ducky Derby and Flocking Cortland community members. Through our hard work and dedication as a team we were able to donate over $2200.00 to the American Cancer Society. We would like to thank the Cortland County Relay for Life for a great event and all of our generous supporters, without your support we could not have had such an outcome, thank you again for your support!
